The organisers of the 2016 Brexit referendum, on leaving or staying within the EU, failed to anticipate a scenario with only a slim majority in favour of a particular option. Not surprisingly, two and a half years, British politics and society find themselves deeply divided, with painful gaps between the government and parliament, and parliament and the public. This happens more often with referenda on similar, critical issues. This blog suggests some ways out of the impasse, drawing on peace-building experiences with referendum pains elsewhere.
